Is this the same banner program started in Scottdale in 2022?
No, this is an entirely new organization, but two of the originators of the original program are back in 2027 as Program Managers.
Is there anything different about this program?
There are a few things to note. The first thing is the name. The Fay-West Veterans Banner program will encompass both Fayette and Westmoreland Counties, so it does not only include veterans from Scottdale. This was done to include veterans that may live in areas that do not have a banner program. Although the banners will be hung in Scottdale, our goal is to honor ALL veterans, regardless of their hometown.
This program is NOT affiliated with the Borough of Scottdale. This is an entirely private organization that is giving back to the community.
$200 for a banner? That seems a little high.
After researching comparable banner programs in Western Pennsylvania, this amount falls about mid-range for the cost of the banners. In addition, our banners are a little wider than most so that adds an additional cost.
Can I ask for a specific pole to hang our loved one’s banner?
We cannot promise a banner can be hung on a specific pole. There are only so many poles available and it becomes quite a chore to honor all requests. In addition, it’s possible a banner may have to be moved or removed depending on the circumstances.
Are banners replaced in the event of damage or wear?
Banners cannot be guaranteed once installed. They are displayed outdoors on active utility poles and are exposed to weather, sunlight, traffic, and emergency work. Because no organization involved has control over those conditions, no one can guarantee the lifespan or safety of any banner once it is hung.
For that reason, the program cannot offer free replacements for banners that become damaged, faded, or lost.
Families may choose to purchase a replacement banner during the next ordering cycle.
Banner Removal
Banners will be displayed for as long as the banner is viable and not damaged or faded. unless removal
is requested by the resident. If a banner is damaged beyond repair or faded beyond recognition, the program
reserves the right to discontinue display of the banner.
Banners that are removed will be returned to the resident that purchased it. (If possible)
